Capitals Re-sign Laing

The Washington Capitals announced today that they've re-signed winger Quintin Laing to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2009-10 season. Laing just won his first Calder Cup championship last Friday with the Hershey Bears.
Laing spent the majority of the 2008-09 season with the Bears, but did earn a recall to Washington on March 19. In his first NHL game of the season, Laing suffered a torn spleen that doctors thought would end his season, with no possibility of returning for the playoffs.
He defied the odds and returned in May to help the Bears' march to their 10th Calder Cup championship in franchise history. He recorded two goals and two assists in nine playoff games.
In 507 career AHL games with Norfolk and Hershey, Laing has recorded 73 goals and 132 assists for 205 points.
He was originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. Laing spent the first six seasons of his professional career in the Chicago Blackhawks organization before signing with the Capitals prior to the 2006-07 season.
