CHA Honors Agosta, Burnett, and Pattenden

Mercyhurst junior forward Meghan Agosta and her teammate freshman goalie Hillary Pattenden and Wayne State junior rearguard Chelsea Burnett were selected as College Hockey American’s offensive, rookie, and defensive players for the week ending November 16th.

Agosta scored one goal and added two assists in last Friday’s 4-1 win over Syracuse with her goal tying the game at 1-1 and one of her assists coming on Valerie Chinouard’s game-winner 9:18 into the second period. In that same game, Pattenden made 20 saves on 21 shots.

On Saturday, Agosta netted the hat trick with one of her goals being the game-winner with 6:27 left in the first period. She also finished the weekend a +4. For the first two periods of the game, Pattenden made 14 saves before being replaced by Nicole Nelson. She finished the weekend with a 1.20 GAA, and 0.944 SAV%.

Johnson, Pyett, and Chartier are ECAC’s Best

Cornell sophomore forward Rebecca Johnston, Brown freshman defender Paige Pyett and St. Lawrence junior goaltender Brittony Chartier are the ECAC’s player, rookie, and goalie of the week. In Friday’s 3-2 win over Brown, Johnson scored twice for Cornell and finished a +2 with Pyett adding an assist for Brown and finishing with a -2 rating. Johnson added another two goals on Saturday finishing a +1 in their 3-0 shutout of Yale. Pyett’s goal tied the score at 2-2 in a game that Brown would eventually win over Colgate 4-3 and added one assist, finishing a +2.

Chartier made 31 saves on 31 shots in St. Lawrence’s 3-0 shutout of Dartmouth on Friday and followed that up with 28 saves on 29 shots in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Harvard.

Hockey East Honors Stack, Lacasse, and Wilcox

Boston College junior forward Kelli Stack, Providence College freshman netminder Genevieve Lacasse, and Boston University senior netminder Allyse Wilcox have received Hockey East’s player, rookie, and defensive player of the week awards. Last Thursday, Stack’s goal 8:02 into the second gave BC a 3-0 lead over Connecticut in a game that they would go on to win 3-2. She also went on to net a hat trick in Sunday’s 5-3 loss to Maine.

Lacasse’s first career shutout came on Sunday against Connecticut as she made 30 saves while her team was outshot 30-20. She was also the first star of the game.
Wilcox made 30 saves as Boston University shutout Princeton 2-0 on Friday.

Knight, Hirsch, and Winberg are WCHA’s Best

Wisconsin sophomore forward Hilary Knight, St. Cloud State junior rearguard Danielle Hirsch, and UMD freshman forward Pernilla Winberg are the WCHA’s offensive, defensive, and rookie players of the week. Knight added three assists in Saturday’s 5-1 win over North Dakota on Saturday and netted her third NCAA hat trick as Wisconsin shutout the Fighting Sioux 4-0 on Sunday with her hat trick being a natural one.

Hirsch assisted on Holly Roberts’ goal 2:50 into the second in a game that the Huskies would win 3-2 over Minnesota State. Her goal 3:07 into the first in Saturday’s rematch opened the scoring, and she went on to add assists on each of the next two goals as St. Cloud State completed the sweep with a 4-3 win. She was the first star of Saturday’s game. Winberg assisted on Haley Irwin’s goal with 2:09 left in the first on Friday in UMD’s 3-0 shutout of Ohio State and added three assists in Saturday’s 8-3 win.

O’Sullivan Inducted into Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame

On Wednesday, November 19th former Providence College Friar Stephanie O’Sullivan was one of 10 players from Massachusetts or who have played in the state inducted into that state’s Hockey Hall of Fame. She was joined by Boston Bruins Hall of Fame Milt Schmidt, builders Walter Brown, Allen Wright, Gordon Blaney, and Gerry Bartholomew, Harvard and Boston Bruin Ted Donato, 1952 Olympic silver medalist Joe Czarnota, Billerica coach Paul Barber, former NHL linesman Kevin Collins, and NCAA and Bruins broadcaster Dave Shea. The ceremony took place at Lombardo’s in Randolph. Boston University broadcaster Bernie Corbett was the Master of Ceremonies.

In 1995, O’Sullivan was the ECAC and New England Hockey Writers Player of the Year as she scored 40 times and assisted on 28 others. She was a member of the ECAC All-Star team ever year but her first one. She was the ECAC Rookie of the Year and led the Friars to four consecutive ECAC Championships. With regards to team records, O’Sullivan is second all time with 253 points, holds the team record in assists with 127, and her 126 goals scored is second. O’Sullivan played for Team USA at the 1994, 1997, 1999, and 2000 World Championships scoring 10 goals and 13 assists in 20 games.

Wisconsin is Unanimous Number One

For the fifth consecutive week, Wisconsin unanimously remains number one in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and the USCHO.com polls receiving all 19 votes in the former and 15 in the latter.

Minnesota remained second on both polls while the University of New Hampshire moved from sixth to third in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll and fifth to third in the USCHO.com poll. St. Lawrence moved from ninth to fourth on both polls, Dartmouth drops from third to fifth on the USA Today/USA Hockey Poll, and Boston University from seventh to fifth on the USCHO.com poll.

Games This Week

Connecticut and Boston College kicked off weekly play on Thursday night as Kelli Stack’s game-winner 8:02 into the second gave BC the win.

Two conference games were featured in College Hockey America action on Friday night as Brianna Delaney and Morgan Beikirch scored in Robert Morris’s 2-1 win over Niagara, and Meghan Agosta added a goal and two assists as Mercyhurst skated to a 4-1 win over Syracuse.

In Saturday’s action, Syracuse once again scored only once taking a 7-1 beating with Jesse Scanzano leading Mercyhurst’s offense with a goal and three assists, and Ashley Riggs beat Jenni Bauer for the game-winner 2:23 into the third as Niagara nipped Robert Morris 3-2.

Sam Poyton’s game-winner at the 8:38 mark of the third saw Wayne State nip Northeastern 4-3, Kyleigh Palmer’s two goals led Vermont to a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac, and Erin Seman and Jillian Kirchner both netted their fourth of the year beating Kristen Young as Boston University shutout Princeton 2-0 in non-conference action on Friday.

In Saturday’s non-conference tilts, Wayne State swept Northeastern with a 3-2 score on Chelsea Burnett’s game-winner 57 seconds into the third; Melissa Anderson led the way offensively for Boston University with three assists in their 5-1 win over Quinnipiac; and Danielle DiCesare’s goal and assist gave Princeton a 3-1 win over Vermont.

In ECAC play on Friday, Kate Stewart scored twice as Colgate doubled Yale 4-2; Melissa Waldie and Mari-Jo Gaudet scored as Clarkson blanked Harvard 2-0; Karlee Overguard netted the game-winner for Cornell 4:52 into overtime as the Big Red nipped Brown 3-2; and Alison Domenico netted the game-winner with 6:48 left in the first and added one assist as St. Lawrence shutout Dartmouth 3-0.

Lundy Day made 27 saves in Union’s 3-0 loss to Rensselaer despite her team having only five shots on goal; Cornell blanked Yale 3-0 with Rebecca Johnson leading the way with two goals and Overguard netting the game-winner at the 9:32 mark of the third; Brittony Chartier made 28 saves on 29 shots as St. Lawrence skated to a 3-1 win over Harvard; Dartmouth and Clarkson skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with Shannon Bowman and Sarah Parsons scoring for Dartmouth, and Waldie and Brittany Mulligan replying for Clarkson; and Paige Pyett’s goal and assist leading Brown past Colgate 4-3 in Saturday’s ECAC action.

Friday’s only Hockey East conference game saw New Hampshire route Maine 7-1 with Jenn Wakefield leading the way with the double double of two goals and two assists.

Two Hockey East games took place on Sunday as Amy Stech had two goals with one of them being the game-winner with 7:18 left in the third gave Maine a 5-3 win over Boston College; and Kate Bacon and Alyse Ruff providing Providence’s offense in their 2-0 shutout of Connecticut.

In WCHA play over the weekend, St. Cloud State swept Minnesota state with Holly Roberts leading the way Friday night with a goal and an assist in the 3-2 victory, while Megan McCarthy’s game-winner 7:26 into the second on Saturday gave the Huskies a 4-0 lead in a game that they would win 4-3.

Bemidji State failed to score a goal over the two games against Minnesota getting shutout 3-0 on Friday night with Monique Lamoureux’s goal and assist leading the Golden Gophers’ offense and getting whitewashed 7-0 on Saturday with Kelli Blankenship lighting the lamppost once and assisting on two others.

The other Friday-Saturday series, the contest between Minnesota and Bemidji, pretty much saw the same result. Minnesota-Duluth shutout Ohio State 3-0 on Friday as Jaime Rasmussen banged home the game-winner past Liana Bonanno 6:12 into the first. The Saturday game had Elin Holmlov score twice and assist on two others in the 8-3 route.

Wisconsin and North Dakota met up in Grand Forks, ND on Saturday and Sunday with the Badgers coming out on the winning end both times. Jasmine Giles had two goals, and Carolyne Prevost beat Brittany Kirkham for the game-winner 1:30 into the second for the 5-1 win on Friday; with Jessie Vetter shutting the door in the nets in the 4-0 blanking on Sunday.

The Leaders

With six points in CHA play Robert Morris (3-1-0) leads the conference standings, while Mercyhurst is the overall leader with their 6-4-0 record. Dartmouth and Rensselaer both have 4-1-1 records to lead the ECAC in the conference standings. Colgate is the overall leader with seven wins against six losses and no ties.

In Hockey East play, Boston College (4-1-1) has nine points to lead all conference teams and are tied with their crosstown rival Boston University overall with their 7-2-3 records. Wisconsin (8-0-2-1) has a one point lead over Minnesota (8-1-1-1) in WCHA conference action and has 12 wins against no losses and two ties for the overall lead.

Among CHA skaters, Mercyhurst junior forward Meghan Agosta leads the conference with four goals and three assists over two games while her teammate and freshman goalie Hillary Pattenden leads that category with her 2-0-0 record, 1.20 GAA, and 0.946 SAV%.

Wayne State senior forward Sam Poyton’s 11 goals and six assists leads the CHA overall with her teammate and junior forward Lindsey Park (2-1-1, 1.71 GAA, 0.929 SAV%) leads all netminders overall.

Yale senior forward Crysti Howser has four goals and four assists to lead all ECAC point getters conference wise, while Clarkson senior right winger Marie-Jo Gaudet’s eight goals and nine assists gives her the nod overall.

Between the ECAC pipes, Gaudet’s teammate sophomore Lauren Dahm has two wins against no losses and one tie, a GAA of 0.65, and a 0.972 SAV% to lead in the conference, with Dartmouth senior netminder Carli Clemis has a 4-1-1 record, 1.15 GAA, and 0.957 SAV% to lead all goalies overall.

Boston College junior forward Kelli Stack lead the conference (7G, 6A) and overall (12G, 10A) Hockey East scoring race, while freshman Florence Schelling, who plays for crosstown rival Northeastern, leads conference netminders with two wins versus no losses and no ties, a 0.50 GAA, and 0.983 SAV% and overall as she is 4-1-1 with a 1.15 GAA, and 0.964 SAV%.

Wisconsin sophomore forward Hilary Knight’s nine goal and seven assists gives her the WCHA conference scoring lead, and her 16 goals and nine assists also gives her the overall lead.

Her teammate senior Jessie Vetter has an 8-0-2 record, 1.02 GAA, and 0.956 SAV% to lead all conference goalies, while her 11-0-2 record, 0.80 GAA, and 0.962 SAV% gives her the overall lead.

Upcoming Games

Hockey East action kicks off weekly play on Thursday with one game as Connecticut hosts Boston College.

There is one game in CHA conference action on Friday as Syracuse takes on Wayne State in Detroit with the series cluing up on Saturday.

In non-conference action Robert Morris hosts Rensselaer for a two-game set Friday and Saturday; Brown is at home to Niagara; Providence hosts Mercyhurst; Clarkson takes on Quinnipiac in Hamden; New Hampshire and Wisconsin face each other for a two-game series Friday and Saturday in Fort Myers, FL;

In ECAC action on Friday, Harvard hosts Colgate; Dartmouth is at home to Cornell; and St. Lawrence travels to Princeton.

Two WCHA conference series will take place on Friday and Saturday as St. Cloud State is at home to Bemidji State; and Minnesota State travels to St. Paul to face Minnesota with UMD hosting North Dakota Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, Brown hosts Mercyhurst and Niagara is at Providence in non-conference play.Harvard hosts Cornell; Quinnipiac is at home to St. Lawrence; Princeton takes on Clarkson in Princeton; and Dartmouth faces Colgate at home in Saturday’s ECAC action.

One Hockey East Saturday game will feature Boston College at home to crosstown rival Boston University.
