MILFORD CT- The Sacred Heart Pioneers hosted the Army Black Knights on Saturday night for Game Two at the Milford Ice Pavilion. Army was looking for another victory, like the night before in West Point, NY, but left settling for a tie in overtime.

In the preseason coaches poll, Sacred Heart ranked fourth while Army ranked in right behind at fifth. The game ended with a tie, 3-3.

The first period started out with both teams coming full force but not managing to put the puck in the net. Sacred Heart took 17 shots on goal while Army had five but neither team came up with a goal. The first period ended with no score.

The second period started out with Black Knight Owen Meyer scoring the first goal of the game at 4:35 with an assist from Eric Sefchik and Mark Tilch. Pioneer Erik Boisvert tied the game though at 16:19 by scoring a goal with the help of Patrick Knowlton. With two minutes left in the period, Black Knight Matt Hickey scored a goal with an assist from Joey Ammon to put Army ahead 2-1 at the end of the second period.

in the third period the game saw more action. Pioneer Dave Berube made his first career goal at 7:58 with the help of Evan Mladenoff which tied the game 2-2. Army pulled ahead however, 3-2, with a goal from Danny Colvin, assisted by Mike Hull. The Pioneers weren’t going to have a repeat of the night before. Pioneer Corey Laurysen scored the game tying goal at 17:20 with an assist from Adam DeJong.

Both teams took their turns shooting on goal but neither managed to score in overtime.

Black Knight Jay Clark proved he was up for a challenge tonight with a career high of 42 saves. The Pioneers had a total 45 shots on goal while the Black Knights had only 28.

Both teams got more physical in the third period with a variety of penalties. With five penalties in the period consisting of hooking, tripping, holding, too many players and unsportsmanlike conduct, both teams proved that neither was going to back down.

The tie brings the Sacred Heart Pioneers Atlantic Hockey Conference record to 1-3-2.

In two weeks, the Pioneers will head to West Springfield, MA to play American International, only to return home Saturday night for game two.
