With the Stanley Cup now over, we are getting closer to the 2008 NHL draft in Ottawa, Ontario. The combine has now come and gone, and Boston University forward Colin Wilson, is predicted by many, to be a top 10 pick.
“It would be nice to be a top pick,” Wilson said about the upcoming NHL draft. “Mostly I just want to go a team where they have plans for me and want me to come in the next couple of years.”
Even though his father, Carey Wilson, was a former Ranger, Colin is not a pick and choose guy about any particular team. Colin Wilson will go to any team that picks him.
“I’ll go to any team, I can’t get picky here,” stated Wilson. “It is every kid's dream who plays hockey to make it [to the NHL] so I’m not going to get too picky about that.”
Ranked tenth amongst North American skaters, Wilson brings a good scoring touch as seen in the 2007 World Junior Championships where he scored six goals in six games for team USA.
As mentioned in Part I of this article, Wilson made adjustments with new teammates, and classmates for that matter. Whatever adjustments he made fitted nicely to the Terrier system as Wilson won the Hockey East Rookie of the Year.
As far as playing with the class of 2011, Wilson stated, “Nick Bonino was a little bit older, a couple of freshmen were a little bit older as well. Just kind of bonding with the guys and things like that.
“They [the freshmen class] have great offensive skills that they kept coming with and it was great playing with them.”
Another interesting part about Wilson is that he is has been blogging recently on NHL.com. From the playoffs, to the draft, to this past year, Wilson has been blogging about anything hockey.
“It’s kind of fun doing the blog,” Wilson said. “They just take your words and when they write it, it’s like you were talking, so it’s not just quotes.
“I just talked about the New York Rangers being my favorite team, just want them to go out there and do well.”
In his most recent blog, not only did Wilson talk about watching the NHL Playoffs, but also talked about being part of a great rivalry in college hockey: The ‘B’ Line rivalry between Boston University and Boston College.

“Everybody just takes that game a little more seriously,” Wilson said about the ‘B’ line rivalry. “Everybody wants to go out there and get that big hit or score that big goal, things like that, and the crowd and the student section are into it.”
The 2007-08 season, however, saw the Terriers go 0-3-1 against the Eagles, including the Beanpot, a tournament BU dominates.
“We were playing the national champions and they had a great squad and we never squeaked out a win, but, next year we will defiantly look to get back on track.”
As far as Wilson’s first Beanpot experience, Wilson said, “It was a really cool experience, playing the first game against your rival team. Everybody was into it, seeing the chants in the student section going back and fourth.
“The ice was a little different; I liked the NHL size ice. It was pretty cool going out there and playing against your rival school.”
While the past and the present have been good to Colin Wilson so far, the future looks bright for this 18-year-old prospect from Greenwich, Connecticut. Whether it’s the draft, next season, or year’s to come, Wilson has some thoughts on what the future might bring to him.
“I’m going to be playing college hockey, and hopefully sometime make the jump to the NHL.”
