The Chicago Wolves and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins squared off Saturday in Game 5 of the Calder Cup finals. The Penguins avoided elimination once again with a convincing 5-1 win over the Wolves. Here’s a recap of Game 5.

Game 5 Summary: The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins staved off elimination for the second straight game. This time they did it in convincing fashion over the Chicago Wolves. John Curry played his best game of the series, and the Penguins got goals from five different players.
Chicago got on the board first with a second period goal from Bryan Little. That would be the only goal Curry would allow as the Penguins rallied off five consecutive goals. Dave Gove, Connor James, Mark Ardelan, Luca Caputi, and Ben Lovejoy all scored for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Curry made 33 saves on 34 shots.
Jason Krog (13), Darren Haydar (12), and Joel Kwiatkowski (8) all had their point’s streaks ended. Chicago’s Ondrej Pavelec allowed five goals on 31 shots. In honor of his final game in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Dennis Bonvie was named the number two star of the game; Bonvie is retiring following the season.

Saw John Curry play at BU and he was incredible. If any goaltender in the AHL can lead his team from down 3-0 I think he can. It might not be too long until he makes it to the NHL. Maybe even next year he could be the backup in Pittsburgh.
