Calder Cup Update: Game Four

The Chicago Wolves and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins squared off Friday in Game 4 of the Calder Cup finals. The Penguins played their best game of the finals and it paid off with a 3-2 win to force Game 5. Here’s a recap of Game 4.

Game 4 Summary: The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins were staring elimination right in the eyes, and were hoping to avoid what their parent club faced a night earlier: losing the finals on home ice. The Penguins grabbed a 2-0 lead, but the Wolves battled back. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s best game of the series paid off in the end with a 3-2 win.

The Penguins got the early jump on the Wolves with a first period power play goal from Chris Minard. Dave Gove added a power play goal in the second to stretch the lead to two. Chicago got on the board in the second with two power play goals from Darren Haydar. Nate Smith scored the eventual game-winner 2:21 into the third to force Game 5 tomorrow night.

Jason Krog (13), Haydar (12), and Joel Kwiatkowski (8) extended their point’s streak. Chicago’s Andre Deveaux became the second Wolves player hurt in the series when he was hit from behind into the boards by Ryan Stone. All five goals of the game came on the power play. Rookie John Curry won his first finals game.
