Several AHL Players on the Move

It was a busier day for AHL free agents on day two of the free agency period. Seven players have signed with different teams, with the Calgary Flames and New York Islanders signing three players a piece. The Bruins re-signed Eddie Shore Award winner Johnny Boychuk to a contract extension.
The New York Islanders, parent club of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, announced the signings of forward Jeremy Reich, defenseman Brett Westgarth, and goaltender Scott Munroe to two-way contracts for the 2009-10 season.
Reich, 30, spent the entire 2008-09 season with the Providence Bruins, registering 21 goals and 13 assists for 34 points in 76 games. In 532 career AHL games with Providence, Houston Aeros and Syracuse Crunch, Reich has recorded 83 goals and 110 assists for 193 points and 1,333 penalty minutes.
Westgarth, 27, spent the entire 2008-09 season with the Worcester Sharks, registering two goals and seven assists for nine points. In 119 career AHL games with Worcester, Syracuse Crunch and Iowa Stars, Westgarth has scored four goals and 11 assists for 15 points and 232 penalty minutes.
Munroe, 27, has spent the last four seasons with the Philadelphia Phantoms. During the 2008-09 campaign, Munroe posted a 31-19-4 record with a 2.46 goals against average and a .926 save %. In 134 career AHL games – all with Philadelphia – Munroe has a career record of 64-48-8 with a 2.62 goals against average.
The Calgary Flames, parent club of the Abbotsford Heat, announced the signings of forwards Garth Murray and Riley Armstrong and defenseman Staffan Kronwall to two-way contracts for the 2009-10 season.
Murray, 26, spent the majority of the 2008-09 season with the San Antonio Rampage. In 63 games with the Rampage, Murray registered 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points. In 275 career AHL games with San Antonio, Hamilton Bulldogs and Hartford Wolf Pack, Murray has registered 37 goals and 41 assists for 78 points and 654 penalty minutes.
Armstrong, 24, spent most of the 2008-09 season with the Worcester Sharks. In 71 games with the Sharks, Armstrong registered 25 goals and 17 assists for 42 points. In 342 career AHL games with Worcester and Cleveland Barons, Armstrong has registered 71 goals and 69 assists for 140 points and 484 penalty minutes.
Kronwall, 26, split the 2008-09 season between the Toronto Marlies and Hershey Bears, where he won a Calder Cup last month. In 59 games last season, Kronwall recorded nine goals and 25 assists for 34 points. In 148 career AHL games with Toronto and Hershey, the 6’4” defenseman has posted 16 goals and 56 assists for 72 points and 117 penalty minutes.
The Florida Panthers, parent club of the Rochester Americans, announced today the signing of defenseman Clay Wilson to a two-year.
Wilson, 26, split last season between the Syracuse Crunch and Chicago Wolves. In 70 AHL games last season, Wilson registered 14 goals and 31 assists for 45 points. In 280 career AHL games with Syracuse, Chicago and Portland Pirates, Wilson has scored 47 goals and 125 assists for 172 points and 143 penlty minutes.
The Boston Bruins, parent club of the Providence Bruins, re-signed defenseman Johnny Boychuk to a one-year, two way contract for the 2009-10 season.
Boychuk, 25, spent last season with the Providence Bruins, registering 20 goals and 45 assists for 65 points in 78 games. He helped lead the P-Bruins to the Eastern Conference final, posting three goals and five assists for eight points in 16 playoff games.
He was the recipient of the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s top defenseman for the 2008-09 season. He was selected to the AHL All-Star games as a starting defenseman.
Boychuk has appeared in 372 career AHL games with Providence, Lake Erie Monsters, Hershey Bears, Albany River Rats and Lowell Lock Monsters, registering 47 goals and 119 assists for 166 points and 391 penalty minutes.
The Phoenix Coyotes, parent club of the San Antonio Rampage, announced they’ve re-signed forward Stefan Meyer to a one-year contract. Meyer was acquired from the Florida Panthers on June 19.
Meyer, 23, spent last season with the Rochester Americans, posting 18 goals and 22 assists in 65 games. In 266 career AHL games with the Americans, Meyer has scored 64 goals and 66 assists for 130 points and 363 penalty minutes.
The Montreal Canadiens, parent club of the Hamilton Bulldogs, announced today that they’ve re-signed forward Mike Glumac and defenseman Alex Henrey to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2009-10 season.
Glumac, 29, spent the entire 2008-09 season with the Hamilton Bulldogs, registering 33 goals and 19 assists for 52 points in 66 games. In 389 career AHL games with Hamilton, Peoria Rivermen, Worcester Ice Cats and Cleveland Barons, Glumac has registered 146 goals and 150 assists for 296 points and 439 penalty minutes.
Henry, 29, spent the majority of the 2008-09 season with the Hamilton Bulldogs. In 79 games with the Bulldogs, Henrey registered three goals and seven assists for 10 points. In 411 career AHL games with Hamilton, Milwaukee Admirals and Portlant Pirates, Henry has registered 14 goals and 38 assists for 52 points and 634 penalty minutes.
The Vancouver Canucks, parent club of the Manitoba Moose, re-signed defenseman Noaln Baumgartner and forward Matt Pope to contracts for the 2009-10 season.
Baumgartner, 33, is a veteran of 12 AHL seasons with 715 games of experience. In 72 games last season with Manitoba, Baumgartner registered 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points. In 715 career AHL games with Manitoba, Iowa Stars, Philadelphia Phantoms, Norfolk Admirals and Portland Pirates, he’s recorded 74 goals and 253 assists for 327 assists and 726 penalty minutes.
Pope, 24, just completed his first professional season, appearing in 12 AHL games with the Binghamton Senators and Manitoba Moose. In those 12 games, Pope registered four goals and four assists for eight points and 10 penalty minutes.
