Last season, the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings went abroad to London to play two games against each other. When they came back, they both appeared to be slow and out-of-sync due to an overseas hangover.
The question is will this impact the New York Rangers this season, especially since starting this Friday, they'll be playing five games in a span of seven days.
Luckily, the Blueshirts won both of the games they played against the Tampa Bay Lightning overseas, unlike the Ducks and Kings who split their first two. For the Rangers, it was a trip that saw them bond, made the lines come together, name a new team captain and more importantly, start the season off on the right foot by picking up four points.
This is exactly why I think the team will not suffer from an overseas hangover. The team won both games they played, they came together as a team and they showed just how good they can be, despite scoring just four goals on 80 shots. The trip was nothing but positive and the team took it that way as well.
The Blueshirts were due to fly back right after the game this afternoon, so they'll get home, rest up tomorrow and most likely Tuesday and be back on the ice Wednesday to prepare for their weekend games against the Chicago Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers.
It's a long season but starting the season off with two straight wins can only help set the right tone for the long haul.
